I was born in the year of revolution in Iran and named Azadeh which means the person who is free. The idea of freedom influenced my whole life not only as an artist but as a human being, significantly.
Growing up with the constant horror during the 8 years of Iran-Iraq war, gave me-and my generation- a real image of war and it’s consequence. It was the first time that I faced semi-immigration. Tehran was getting bombarded repeatedly. We had to escape to a little village in the center of Iran. This whole experience made me appreciate the peace with the strong inclination to stay away from any kind of war.
I double majored in Engineering and Fine Art. I attended the art school secretly, as my parent rather having an engineer daughter than an artist one!
2008 was my second and main immigration. Being minority, dealing with different rules, culture, and language; feeling insecure by any change (especially political); and numerous self-doubting were the new challenges that I deal with as an immigrant on the daily basis.
I had received my MFA as a studio artist at NYU. My art has been exhibited in different galleries (New York, California, Florida, Pennsylvania and Arizona) as well as Dubai and Iran. I was invited to have a lecture at ASU Museum in Phoenix, Arizona (2016).
Also, I was shortlisted by MOPCAP (2015) as an Iranian emerging artist with the potential to make a significant impact in my field.
I have won different prizes including NYFA Mentorship program, (2016) UrbanGlass scholarship that I was awarded for my works with sugar (2015). I was the art department Banner Bearer of 2014 and received the Artistic Practice Award in the same year.
