ABOUT THE ARTIST
I was born in 1979, the year of the revolution in Iran. And I named Azadeh which means ‘the person who is free’ in Farsi. I learned the name of freedom before any other word. And I convinced that I am the person who is free; who should be free. I am Azadeh.
But this innate urge for freedom was in conflict with my situation: being a female in a Moslem country.
Most of my 2-D and 3-D artwork is related to my background as a female, as a Muslim and as an Iranian. My intention is to protest and fight for freedom through my art making; sending my message with color, line and form.
I aim to make change. I am not expecting a big change, but I want to do my best to create a more beautiful world. I want to make it a better place to live and enjoy life. I believe in the power of art and that positive change can take place through this universal language. Art is a strong weapon that does not shed blood when wielded.
